Growing a Brighter Future for America’s Agricultural Industry

The state’s 28 four-year colleges and universities and 24 two-year community and technical colleges are strategically located throughout the state AIDT, Alabama’s #1 incentive, provides a total workforce delivery system at no cost to qualified employers.

Alabama is home to some of the nation’s leading research and development for the agriculture industry, including Auburn University’s College of Agriculture and several Auburn centers and institutions helping to make Alabama’s food industry more productive and safe. They are the Aquaculture & Fisheries Business Institute, Food Systems Institute and the National Poultry Technology Center.

In addition, Alabama A&M’s Department of Food & Animal Sciences, and Tuskegee University’s Department of Food & Nutritional Sciences are leading R&D resources for the food industry.

Putting R&D Into Alabama Ag-Tech

In Alabama, leading institutions are working on solutions to some of the greatest global challenges in agriculture and food safety. Some examples include HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology’s Genome Sequencing Center is generating whole genome sequencing, assembly and analysis, and developing tools that help support agricultural sustainability. The International Fertilizer Development Center is helping millions of farmers in developing countries to increase and sustain food security and agricultural productivity. The Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station (consisting of 16 research centers across the state) and Auburn University’s College of Agriculture conduct research on a wide range of subjects related to agriculture, forestry, natural resources and the environment. These have lead to discoveries that benefit farmers, business owners, consumers, and more.
