UAB to test COVID-19 vaccine candidate

UAB is collaborating with Maryland-based biopharmaceutical company Altimmune, Inc. for preclinical testing of a potential COVID-19 vaccine.

According to UAB, the testing will investigate immune responses to the vaccine in mice. This is a critical step before the vaccine can enter a Phase 1 human safety and immunogenicity trial. The vaccine itself, dubbed AdCOVID, is a single-dose vaccine that is delivered by a intranasal spray.
